Boxwood Boutique Topiary Nursery was planted in 1993 as a long-term project going hand in hand with Richmond Garden in Carterton, Wairarapa, in the North Island of New Zealand.

At Boxwood, the process from rooted cutting to mature topiary takes approximately 12 years. During this time the plants are shaped and clipped regularly.

They are grown in-ground, then lifted, root-pruned and potted ready for sale.

All Boxwood topiary are grown from Buxus Sempervirens which is capable, in ideal conditions, of growing up to 2m in height. At 500mm, the number of leaders the plant has developed will determine the shape that it will be trained into.

Boxwood topiary is cut freehand and every example is unique. Shapes range from the whimsical to the architectural and with care should be enjoyed by several generations.

Boxwood is also home to the most significant collection of Buxus plants in New Zealand, with 29 unique varieties from all over the world. This collection is not for sale but is available for viewing at Richmond Garden. Examples will, however, be propogated and available for sale sometime in the future.
